Dr Younis will present a general seminar about his current research work in machine learning, including its application to Face Recognition, Optical Character Recognition, Computer-Aided Drug Design, etc. This research builds on years of experience in R&D for a world leading company in computer-aided detection (CAD) and workflow solutions to support rapid and accurate detection of breast, prostate and colorectal cancers. In addition, Dr Younis will tackle the business side of software development through his experience as a Regional Sales Manager, MENA, for the worldwide largest independent, vendor neutral medical image viewing solution provider with a focus on advanced image processing innovation. Dr Younis will briefly present the application of pattern recognition in monitoring patients as a healthcare use case for a Horizon 2020 grant application for development of architecture, models, hardware/software components, and tools for scalable IoT systems.
Finally, Dr Younis will present the Erasmus+ Capacity-Building project in the field of Higher Education (E+CBHE) where he is a co-grant holder for Modernization of Teaching Methodologies in Higher Education.
Biography: Dr. Khaled S. Younis is an Assistant Professor at the Computer Engineering Department at the University of Jordan. Dr. Younis received a B.S. (Top Graduate) and M.S. (distinguished Graduate) in Electrical engineering from Mu’tah University, Jordan, and from the Air Force Institute of Technology , OH, USA, respectively. He obtained the Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from University of Dayton, OH. His research interests are in machine learning, E-health applications, and image processing. He has published numerous research papers at international journals, conference proceedings, as well as book chapters. He co-founded Qualia Computing Co. in 1997 that ultimately became iCAD, (http://www.icadmed.com), and had 10 years of experience as software developer and algorithmic tester. He has a 7 year experience in business development, Sales and Marketing management for TeraRecon (http://www.terarecon.com). He is the director of machine learning lab at the University of Jordan. Dr Younis has several awards and grants from International and national organizations. He is is active in Intrnational cooperation programs and was a visiting scholar in Spain, Turkey, Germany, and was invited by the University of Chicago at Illinois to perform research and teach during the Winter semester 2017. He is/was a reviewer of international journals including Computer Vision Journal. He is active co-grant holder for a 1 Million Euro grant from Erasmus Plus to apply new methods incorporating ICT in higher education with 15 European and ME partners in addition to other national funded projects.
