Software

Software Components of the System:

Scientific Linux v5.2 64-bit (Operating System)

An open source free Linux distribution developed by Fermilab (Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory) and CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research). Most of the cluster systems use Scientific Linux as operating system. For more information: http://www.scientificlinux.org/

Lustre v1.6.7 (Parallel File System)

A file system developed for large clusters with Linux operating system. For more information: http://wiki.lustre.org/

Torque v2.3.6 (Resource Manager)

An open source spinn-off PBS (Portable Batch System) from Cluster Resources. Its primary task is to allocate computational tasks, i.e., batch jobs, among the available computing resources. For more information: http://www.clusterresources.com

Maui v3.2.6 (Job Scheduler)

An open source job scheduler for use on clusters and supercomputers. Maui is capable of supporting multiple scheduling policies, dynamic priorities, reservations, and fairshare capabilities. For more information: http://www.clusterresources.com

LDAP (User Authentication)

An application protocol for querying and modifying directory services running over TCP/IP.

Compilers

For C and C++

For Fortran

For Java

Debuggers

Other Tools

MATLAB v7.5.0 (R2007b), v7.6.0 (R2008a), v7.7.0 (R2008b)

MATLAB is a powerful tool for numerical computation. With specific toolboxes, application development needs less effort. We also have MATLAB's Distributed Computing Engine installed besides the following toolboxes:

  • Image Processing Toolbox
  • Neural Network Toolbox
  • Genetic Algorithm and Direct Search Toolbox
  • Optimization Toolbox
  • Signal Processing Toolbox
  • Statistics Toolbox
  • Parallel Computing Toolbox

Libraries

  • MPI
    • MVAPICH v1.1.0
    • MVAPICH2 v1.2p1
    • OpenMPI v1.2.8
  • Intel MKL v10.0 (Math Kernel Lirary)
    • Provides optimized and threaded math routines that improves performance
  • Intel IPP v5.3 (Integrated Performance Primitives)
  • FFTW v3.1.2 (Fast Fourier Transform in the West)

Microsoft Windows HPC Server 2008

Microsoft Windows HPC Server 2008 is installed 3 of the nodes (One being the head node). These nodes are configured to be dual-bootable. For more information about the product, check http://www.microsoft.com/hpc and if you are asking How can I use Microsoft Windows HPC Server 2008, just click the link.
